ANOTHER GIANT WANTS TO KILL KING DAVID

JERUSALEM

KING DAVID WAS 60 YEARS OLD

"Now when the Philistines were at war again
with Israel, David went down and his servants
with him; and as they fought against the
 Philistines, David became weary."
II Samuel 21:15 NASB

A Giant wanted to kill King David

"Then Ishbi-benob, who was among the
descendants of the giant, the weight of whose
spear was three hundred shekels of bronze in
weight, was girded with a new sword, and
 he intended to kill David."
II Samuel 21:16 NASB

Abishai helped David by killing Ishbi-benob the
giant.  And the men of Israel took King David
off the battlefield.

"But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him,
and struck the Philistine and killed him. Then
the men of David swore to him, saying, “You
shall not go out again with us to battle, so that
you do not extinguish the lamp of Israel."
II Samuel 21:17 NASB

Sibbecai struck down another giant.

"Now it came about after this that there was
 war again with the Philistines at Gob;
then Sibbecai the Hushathite struck down
Saph, who was among the descendants of
 the giant."
 II Samuel 21:18 NASB

Elhanan killed Goliath the Gittite.

"There was war with the Philistines again at
Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim
the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, the
shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s
 beam."
II Samuel 21:19 NASB

Jonathan killed a six fingered Giant.

"There was war at Gath again, where there
was a man of great stature who had six
fingers on each hand and six toes on each
foot, twenty-four in number; and he also had
been born to the giant."   II Samuel 21:20
 NASB

"When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of
Shimei, David’s brother, struck him down."
II Samuel 21:21 NASB

Those four Giants were offspring of the giant in
Gath.

"These four were born to the giant in Gath,
and they fell by the hand of David and by the
hand of his servants."
II Samuel 21:15 NASB (New American Standard Bible)

THE PRODIGAL BROTHER

FAMOUS WHINERS OF THE BIBLE

"Jesus told this parable; and he said,
THERE WAS A MAN WITH TWO SONS."

"And the YOUNGER of the said to his father, "Father give the share of property that is coming to me.'  And he divided his property between them."

RECKLESS LIVING

"Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living."

FAMINE AND FOOD SHORTAGE
"And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need."

WORKING AS A PIG FARMER
"So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything."

COMING TO HIS SENSES
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger!   I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.  I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’

PRODIGAL SON RETURNS HOME
And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.  And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

FATHER CELEBRATES
But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.  And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate.  For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate."

PRODIGAL BROTHER IS JEALOUS
“Now his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.  And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant.  And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound.’"

OLDER SON WHINES TO HIS FATHER
But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,  but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.  But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’"

QUIT WHINING, YOUR BROTHER IS ALIVE!
And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’”

AHAB and JEZEBEL

PRIDE BUSTERS

PRIDE AND LAND GRABBING

Ahab the ruler over Israel, wanted to purchase a vineyard next to his palace.  He offered money or a trade for a better vineyard.

"...Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel beside the palace of Ahab the king of Samaria."

Ahab spoke to Naboth

"Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a vegetable garden because it is close beside my house, and I will give you a better vineyard than it in its place; if you like, I will give you the price of it in money."

But the owner of the vineyard, Naboth, chose to obey the law of God, refusing to give away the land, because it was the inheritance of his fathers.

Naboth said to Ahab

"The LORD forbid me that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers."

So Ahab came into his house sullen and vexed because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers."  And he lay down on his bed and turned his face and ate no food.

Jezebel his wife came to him and said to him,

"How is it that your spirit is so sullen that you are not eating food?"

So he said to her,

"Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you a vineyard in its place.'   But he said, I will not give you my vineyard."

Evil Jezebel has a plan to steal the property.

Jezebel his wife said to him,

Do you now reign over Israel?  Arise, eat bread, and let your heart be joyful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite."

So she wrote letters in Ahab's name and sealed them with his seal, and sent letters to the elders and to the nobles who were living with Naboth in is city.

GOD HATES FALSE WITNESSES

Now she wrote in the letters, saying,

"Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth at the head of the people; and seat two worthless men before him, and let them testify against him, saying, "You cursed God and the king."
Then take him out and stone him to death.

So the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them, just as it was written in the letters which she had sent them.   They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth at the head of the people.

Then the two worthless men came in and sat before him; and the worthless men testified against him, even against Naboth, before the people saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king."

So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.'

Then they sent word to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth has been stoned and is dead."

When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth, the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.” When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab arose to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.   1 KINGS 21:1-16  NASB  New American Standard Bible

DO YOU LIKE TO FELLOWSHIP?

I AM TALKING TO YOU

DOGS ARE MAN'S BEST FRIEND,
because they enjoy to fellowship.
Have you ever seen a dog want to stay home and choose not to go out for a walk?

..."let us consider how to stimulate one another to LOVE and GOOD DEEDS, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near."  Hebrews 10:24-25
